Language

Seven of my formative years were spent in China and Singapore where I went to bilingual immersion schools, learning to read Chinese before English. After returning to the US, I tried to increase my fluency in the language through a regular Saturday school and built a social media presence in China during Covid-19. I will complete five courses of Chinese language during high school. Most recently, I spent the summer in Shanghai earning college credit.

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), East China Normal University — Shanghai, China

This summer I spent time learning in the classroom, hanging out with my host family, and exploring the city of Shanghai. CIEE offered me a transformative experience immersing me in Chinese culture while advancing my language fluency. I was given the opportunity to engage with locals, explore China's rich history, and even see my old neighborhood. Through cultural weekend excursions to Hang Zhou and Wu Xi, and forming a relationship with my friends and host family, I can confidently say I enjoyed my experience studying abroad.
